DUNHILL-NAMIKI: Owl and Moon Maki-e Fountain Pen, c.1930s
Balance-form lever-filler fountain pen, teardrop clip engraved "Dunhill," 14K gold #6 heart-vent Namiki nib with slight flexibility. 138mm. The barrel depicts an owl in green, red and gold hues in hiramaki-e; the cap depicts an enigmatic moon hovering in a cloudless sky. The owl, a Japanese symbol of fortune, good luck and business success, seems to maintain a silent and thoughtful vigil on his moonlit perch atop a tree bough. Generally very good condition, with hairline crack to threads and light scuffs to section. Unsigned.
