MONTBLANC: No. 232 Piston-Filler, Rolled Gold Barleycorn, c.1936
No. 232 piston-filler, captop engraved "Walzgold" (rolled gold), barleycorn pattern, diamond clip (probably added in Germany c.1948), indicia with Montblanc emblem, original Montblanc #2 steel nib. 112mm. Generally excellent condition.
Jens Rösler comments:
"It is uncommon to find this style of clip on German-made Montblancs of this vintage (one typically sees them on Danish models of this era). It is likely that the clip was added in or around 1948 by Montblanc in Germany, perhaps as an upgrade for an important customer."
Provenance: From the Jens Rösler Montblanc Collection.
-Wallrafen, Stefan & Jens Rösler. Collectible Stars I: Montblanc 1908-1947. [Cologne: 2014], pp. 114-115. The present lot is the actual example pictured in the book.
