An incised American powder horn
Curved and tapered 15 inch horn; 4 1/2 inch two-stage section with faceted spout and pie-crust ring followed by rounded section. Body engraved with row of nine grenadiers; only one is completed. Engraved with a turtle, a fish, a gentleman with a fish on his line standing beside a pond, and a quadruped. Slightly convex wooden plug inscribed with the initials EM; 1 1/2 inch wire staple for strap.
Condition: Good. Much of engraving is either worn, has been removed, or is unfinished. Soft yellow patina overall; some dark areas and staining. Some chipping at butt around plug and a two inch crack stemming from plug into body; dime sized area of body raised and cracked; scattered marks from use. Plug with scattered scratches.
