A continental crossbow
German or Swiss, late 18th century

The 20 inch steel bow, missing the string, the binding cords set with wool pom poms. Walnut butt of gun stock form and with oval cheekpiece; the tip set with an iron stirrup; covered bolt channel lined in bone, the top fitted with simple rear sight, the bone front sight broken.
Condition: Bow with dark age patina. Stock with numerous light marks.
