An Italian flintlock belt pistol
late 18th century
late 18th century
Tapered 10 1/2 inch two-stage barrel in .44 caliber smoothbore; molded girdle. Unmarked lock, the lockplate with beveled rim. Brass furniture delicately engraved with florals and borders, the triggerguard bow with a fantastic figure, possibly a merman. Burl walnut half-stock carved with relief panels.
Condition: Very good. Smooth grey metal showing some minor spotting. Brass with unpolished patina. Wood showing scattered light marks and small chips.
