An Allen & Thurber dragoon size percussion pepperbox
circa 1850

Serial no. 61, 36 caliber. 5 1/2 inch overall six-shot ribbed barrel marked Allen & Thurber Worcester/Patented 1837 Cast-Steel. Frame and nipple shield engraved with florals. bar hammer marked Allens Patent. Transistional 'dog-leg' grip, the varnished walnut gripsscales with oval German silver escutcheons.
Condition: Very good. Grey metal showing generally sharp markings and engraving and scattered areas of light pitting. Fine grips with minor marks.
