Edward Hendree Paine of Tuskegee, Alabama entered the Confederate service in September of 1863 and was elected second lieutenant of Company H, 59th Alabama Infantry Regiment. The regiment was re-titled the 61st Alabama Regiment and attached to the Army of Northern Virginia. On October 19, 1864, his regiment was attached to Rodes Division and engaged near New Market, where Lt. Paine was wounded and captured by Union forces and died the very same day of wounds... A very historic sword and one of the finest examples known by this maker.
