A fine Satsuma vase

By Yabu Meizan, Meiji era (late 19th century)
The small baluster vase decorated in polychrome enamels and gilt on a clear crackled glaze with a central panel painted with a continuous design of Lake Biwa, banded with a scene of children in various activities associated with the New Year's celebration and below by diagonal swathes of tightly painted flower heads alternating with butterflies, the shoulder decorated with a floral collar and the foot rim with floral lozenges on a black ground; signed on the underside in gilt Yabu Meizan
