By Mochizuki Hanzan (1743-90?), Edo period (late 18th century)
Designed with a dynamic carved red lacquer crayfish raised in relief against a black lacquer ground with sparse silver kirigane, the reverse decorated with sea plants in chinkinbori, the interior risers decorated with waves in chinkinbori, sealed [ ] Hanzan no in; fitted with a hardstone bead ojime and a wood netsuke carved as an Okame mask
