A French late 19th century patinated bronze bust of Louis XVIII

after a model by Baron François-Joseph Bosio (1768-1845)
wearing a fur-lined cape emblazoned with fleurs-de-lys, on a circular spreading base, 58cm wide, 34cm deep, 77cm high (22 1/2in wide, 13in deep, 30in high).

Bosio first exhibited a marble bust of Louis XVIII in the Restoration Salon in 1814. In 1821 he was made an officer of the Légion d'Honneur and made a baron in 1825 by Charles X. In 1822, Bosio was appointed First Sculptor by the King. Bosio executed several versions of his bust of Louis XVIII, examples of which are in the Musée de Chalon-Sur-Saône, the Musée de Marseille and the Musée de Brest. A bronze version of the bust was also included in the Exposition Centennale of 1900 in Paris.
