A French late 19th century Orientalist mother of pearl and fruitwood inlaid ebonised cabinet by E. Besse, Paris, dated 1873
the rectangular top with mythological beasts to the front angles, above a cupboard door inlaid with butterflies and foliage, the interior fitted with six drawers decorated with carved etchings, the angles with bearded masks, the side panels decorated with etchings of birds in foliage, on a pierced foliate base with jewelled elephant's head to the front, the underside of the top stamped E. Besse and indistinctly inscribed in pencil 1873, rue Dancourt, Paris, 68cm wide, 46cm deep, 156cm high (26 1/2in wide, 18in deep, 61in high).
