A large French late 19th century gilt-bronze and white marble mantel clock
by E. De Labroue, Paris
the circular white enamel dial inscribed E. De Labroue/ A Paris surmounted by a flower-filled basket, flanked to each side by a seated female caryatid joined by a garland of ivy, above an arched panel of playful putti, on a shaped white marble base and toupie feet, the movement with Labroue, Vittoz and Médaille d'Or pastilles, 56cm wide, 20cm deep, 66cm high (22in wide, 7 1/2in deep, 25 1/2in high).

The bronzier and fondeur E. De Labroue worked with some of the major sculptors of the 19th century, reproducing in bronze important carved marble sculptures. See a cast in bronze by De Labroue of the celebrated white marble figure entitled Une heure de la nuit by Joseph-Michel-Ange Pollet. This bronze was exhibited at the Exposition Universelle in 1855 and is now in the Museum of Rheims. Pradier and Carrier-Belleuse also gave the right to De Labroue to reproduce their work.
