An 18th century French silver sugar vase
by Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot, Paris circa 1797
Campana form with beaded border and gadroon rim, the detachable polished cover applied with ball finial, the body applied with two loop handles with ram head junctions and chased with two husk wreaths between two classical figures, Apollo carrying the Delphic Tripod and Ceres carrying a basket of flowers, all above engraved plantain leaves and egg and dart flange, with circular foot fixed on a square base and raised on four paw feet, height 26cm, length of base 12.8cm, weight 52oz.
