A 17th century silver globe pomander

The ring finial unscrews to release six loculi, each engraved to the exterior with a warrior or a queen with leaves above and below, the slides labelled Nagelen B, Kannel B, Augsein B, Muskatene, Annis B and Meiraen, the circular base with laurel decoration and a pierced base, height 6.8cm.

Footnotes

The origin of these globe pommanders is still in discussion, it is generally accepted that they originate from Northern Europe; German, Dutch or English but made by intinerant craftsmen. An example engraved with English Kings and Queens was sold as part of the Milntown Collection (ex-Mrs. How), these rooms 13 Nov 2013, ex-lot 143.
