A Bohemian or Silesian engraved beaker, dated 1828
The cylindrical bowl decorated with the head of a bull with crossed axes in its mouth, flanked by leafy sprays, the reverse with a village scene beneath the inscription Eine Parthie aus Hermsdorf (A view of Hermsdorf), the lower half cut and moulded with swags and three lenses inscribed with d.29.Janu, the date 1828 and the monogram CBM respectively, the base inscribed with the initial R within a floral wreath, 10.6cm high

The bull's head between axes was the emblem of the Butcher's Guild. Emblems such as this were defined to protect the interests of associations (Guilds) formed between craftsmen and merchants.
