A North Bohemian or Lower Styrian engraved beaker by Hieronymus Hackel, circa 1803-10

The cylindrical form decorated with a portrait of Saint Raymond, holding a staff in his left hand, a merchant ship and a church in the background, all within a plain oval cartouche inscribed S Raymundus above, flanked on both sides by floral sprays, the reverse inscribed Raymund Groeger, the rim with a stylised floral and zigzag border, 11.2cm high

Hieronymus Hackel produced a number of beakers depicting Saints in his earlier work, which were popular as name-day gifts to relatives or friends sharing the same name.
