Footnotes
Weights of this kind have formerly been ascribed to Mount Washington, although a Russian origin is now generally accepted. Lampworked paperweights such as this were produced in small numbers and would have been very expensive to acquire in 19th century Russia. A very similar paperweight was sold in these rooms, 30 November 2011, lot 252. Another similar paperweight is illustrated by Robert Hall, World Paperweights (2001), p. 116.
