Possibly by Joshua Hodgetts, the globular form with internal partition and applied fluted prunt at the top, with an applied clear glass loop handle, the body overlaid in green glass and cut with bold, wave-like palmettes and floral motifs above a diamond-cut band, the spouts further decorated with floral motifs and hallmarked silver mounts, with two mounted cork stoppers (one hallmarked), star-cut base, 21.4cm high, silver maker's mark J.G&S for John Grinsell & Sons, Birmingham 1918 (minor chip to base, one replacement white metal stopper) (3)
Footnotes
Double decanters such as this are rare, and would have been particularly difficult and expensive to produce. A Stevens and Williams decanter of different form but with very similar decoration was sold in these rooms, 30 May 2012, lot 86.
