A large façon de Venise goblet, late 16th or early 17th century
Of dark tint, the large cylindrical straight-sided bowl with an applied and pincered trail at the base, set on a merese, the stem comprising a ribbed and gilded cushion knop set on a merese between two plain sections, above a plain cushion knop, over a conical folded foot, 15.3cm high

This glass is illustrated by Anna and Kitty Laméris, Het Vormglas door de Eeuwen Heen (2006), p. 10, cat. BM 22. Its production has been attributed to Hall-in-Tirol by Frides Laméris. It has a number of similarities in shape to Venetian reliquary glasses, which were sometimes employed as containers for relics. Glasses with bowls of similar shape are illustrated by Anna-Elisabeth Theuerkauff-Liederwald, Venezianisches Glas der Kunstsammlungen der Veste Coburg (1994), cats. 224, 262, 267 and 312.
