Footnotes

Provenance: The Overduin Collection
With Otto Naumann Ltd., sold by Sotheby's New York, 25 January 2007, lot 131
With Kunstzalen A. Vecht, sold 1999

Although Roemers with smooth spherical prunts feature in many Dutch paintings of the third quarter of the 17th century, few have survived. Roemers with smooth prunts are usually earlier in date than those with ornamented prunts. Very similar Roemers are illustrated by Pieter van Eck and Henrica Zijlstra-Zweens, Glass in the Rijksmuseum Vol I (1993), p. 135-136, cats. 190-191. Another very similar Roemer, but with diamond-point engraving, is illustrated by Hubert Vreeken, Glas in het Amsterdams Historisch Museum (1998), pp. 152-153, cat. 134. Another engraved example was sold by Sotheby's London, 14 November 1995, lot 37.
