With H. C. van Vliet, sold 10 October 2006

The inscription and draughtsmanship are characteristic of Willem Mooleyser's work. Similarly shaped glasses with engraving in the manner of Willem Mooleyser are illustrated by Frides and Kitty Laméris, Venetiaans en Façon de Venise Glas 1500-1700 (1991), pp. 128-129, cat. 134, and can be found in the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, accession nos. D172-1973 and D183-1973. A very similar glass inscribed 'The States of Holland' is illustrated by Arthur Churchill, Glass Notes, no. 10 (1950), p. 11, fig. 14. Glasses of similar shape and with comparable engraving were also sold by Sotheby's London, 14 November 1995, lots 67 and 68. A glass of very similar shape, but without engraving, is illustrated by Anna and Kitty Laméris, Het Vormglas door de Eeuwen Heen (2006), p. 31, cat. BM 45.
