Footnotes

Exhibited
Glasgow, Royal Glasgow Institute, 1912, cat.no.352

Andrew Young was a London-based miniaturist.
This view, probably near the pretty Fife coastal resort of Burntisland, is a remarkable tour de force, featuring all manner of humour and incident. Arranged around the central couple, possibly newlyweds, are a fairground, boxing ring, sailors dancing a jig, boys playing marbles and a circus. The artist's fine draughtsmanship and close attention to detail lend the whole composition a pleasing, slightly surreal overtone.
