A Singhalese carved ivory lion head Hilt
Ceylon, 17th Century

the grip of multi-faceted form with four pairs of vertically carved lines down the spine and seven pairs of horizontally carved lines across the front, the pommel in the form of a lion head with jaws open and tongue extended, the stylised mane carved in two tiers, the top of the head inset with wood
14 cm. long.
