A Bohemian amber-stained goblet and cover, circa 1840-60

Carved in Tiefschnitt style, with a thistle-shaped bowl raised on an eight-sided knopped stem and petal-shaped spreading foot engraved with fruiting vines, the conical cover with a spire finial also engraved with borders of vines, the main body deeply cut with two stags fighting in a woodland clearing, trees and ferns continuing all around the bowl, distant hills represented by delicate engraving through the amber-stained ground, 63cm high (2)
