Footnotes
The Seven Sleepers (As-hab al Kahf in Arabic) of Ephesus were a group of Christian youths who hid inside a cave outside the City of Ephesus around 250 A.D., to escape a persecution of Christians during the reign of the Roman Emperor Decius. Having fallen asleep inside the cave, they supposedly awoke some 180 years later during the reign of Theodosius II. The story has its highest prominence in the Muslim world and is told in the Qur'an (Surah 18, Verse 9-26)
