An Ottoman Silver-Mounted Sabre
19th Century

With earlier European curved blade double-edged towards the point and cut with three narrow fullers along the back over most of its length on each side, the forte on both sides etched 'SHHSHH', hilt comprising faceted quillon-block engraved with a design of foliage on each side against a wrigglework ground, pointed langets and plain bud-shaped terminals, and faceted grip with curved rounded pommel, the former engraved en suite with the quillon-block and set with five roundels on each side, two set with an imitation red coral (one damaged), the latter hung with a silver crescent, in original wood-lined silver scabbard embossed and chased with flowering foliage over each side, and with shaped engraved silver suspension mounts each carrying a ring for suspension
