An Egyptian Silver-Gilt Mounted Shamshir
Beni Suef Marks, Circa 1920

With slender slightly curved fullered blade (minor rust patination) double-edged at the point, hilt comprising quillon-block with downscrolled quillons, cast and chased on each side with foliage against a finely punched ground, grip-strap engraved with running foliage, and rounded ivory grips each fluted at the fan-shaped pommel, in original scabbard covered in black leather with deep locket and chape each with embossed and chased foliate border, and shaped suspension mounts en suite with the quillon-block and each with a ring for suspension, and retaining much of its gilding
