Two Small Ottoman Kards
19th Century

The first with finely watered hollowed single-edged blade (point slightly reshaped) gold-damascened with a panel of Turkish calligraphy along the back on one side and with shaped panels of foliage on both sides at the forte, one side struck with a bladesmith's mark, pinched-in gilt-copper basal mount, and walrus-ivory grip of oval section carved with flower-heads and foliage along the flat back, the pommel set with a gold stud, in original wooden scabbard covered in burgundy velvet (plush worn off) with silver-gilt locket and chape each embossed with foliage against a punched ground, the former with suspension loop, the latter with bud-shaped terminal, and each with a ring for suspension; the second of similar form, the white-metal grip with beaked pommel and chased overall with flower-heads and foliage (2)
