Footnotes

Provenance:
Christie's South Kensington, Antique Arms, Armour and Collectors Firearms ..., 30 September 2010, lot 31

Primikhrios is an honorary ecclesiastical title given by the Orthodox Church to an official in charge of a ministerial office. The 'KC' conjoined with Primikhrios in the inscription indicates this position was based in Constantinople. The presence of the cross preceding the inscription can be interpreted to mean that the dedication is a memoriam of a church official names Flapoulis
