An Indian Khanjarli
18th Century

With recurved sharply-pointed double-edged blade with fluted medial ridge bordered by incised lines over most of its length on each side to the point of flattened diamond section, the forte on each side chiselled with a floret, iron hilt retaining some silver-damascened decoration and comprising flat oval guard with small rounded projection on one side and beaked projection beneath the recurved knuckle-guard, the latter of triangular section and tapering up to a stylised monster-head terminal, and characteristically shaped ivory grip-scales and beaked pommel-scales secured by transverse pins with silver-gilt rosette-shaped washers (gilding worn, three missing)
