Footnotes

The 12 pdr. quick firing naval gun was a versatile 3 inch calibre naval gun in use until the middle of the 20th century. It was produced by Armstrong Whitworth and was used on Royal Navy warships, and exported to allied countries. Sixteen 12 pdr. 12 cwt guns saw service during the Second Boer War (1899-1902) when they were mounted on improvised field carriages designed by Captain Percy Scott. Their 10,000 yard range provided valuable long-range support for the army throughout the war
