A Rare Norwegian Powder-Flask

Formed from a circular section of cowhorn curved and tapering towards the slightly bulbous nozzle, the body characteristically carved in bas-relief overall with labelled panels containing scenes from the Old Testament comprising 'Addam' and 'Eva' with the Serpent in the Garden of Eden, two cavalryman and figures of 'Samsøn' and 'Dalia', all between crosses and/or florets, the medial band inscribed 'Danilolger Danske Rolan 1741', wooden base-plug retained by a russet iron band and carved with owner's initials 'KGSW', and original iron loop for suspension
