A Rare Roman Gladius
2nd-3rd Century A.D.

In excavated condition, with broad double-edged pattern-welded blade slightly waisted and of shallow hollowed section forming a medial ridge over its entire length to the arrowhead-shaped point, hilt comprising oval guard with upper band, flat tapering tang retaining three oval iron shims, and canopy-shaped pommel
37.2 cm. blade, 53.5 cm. overall
