An English Basket-Hilted Backsword

With tapering fullered blade double-edged at the point and cut with a narrow fuller along the back for most of its length on each side, iron guard of vertical bars of circular section framing S-shaped bars, those at the side with heart-shaped terminals, two surmounted by a pierced diamond-shaped panel and joined to a ring beneath the compressed bun-shaped pommel, the latter with flattened button, fishskin-covered grip bound with twisted copper wire between Turk's heads, and later buff-leather liner
