A Scottish Basket-Hilted Broadsword
Second Quarter Of The 18th Century

With tapering double-edged blade stamped 'Andrea Farara' between cross marks within the narrow central fullers on each side of the forte, iron guard of flattened bars framing fretted panels incised with lines and pierced with hearts and circles, the main panels centred on saltires, the side panels each with 'ram's horn' terminal, fore-guard, small scrolled wrist-guard, fluted bun-shaped pommel with small button (later), and fishskin-covered grip
