A French Ormolu-Hilted Small-Sword

With slender tapering double-edged blade (extreme tip with some minor pitting) of flattened hexagonal section with shallow central fuller over most of its length on both sides, etched and gilt over nearly its entire length along both sides with symmetrical designs of foliated strapwork involving a flaming heart, a trophy of arms and a sun-in-splendour, the forte on each side en suite and with a cherub in an oval above the inscription 'Cet nombre vaut tout Seul', hilt cast and chased in low relief with rocailles and comprising double shell-guard, arms, lobed rear quillon, knuckle-guard, globular pommel, and swelling grip, and retaining much of its original gilding
