A German Or Dutch Hunting Hanger
18th Century

With tapering double-edged blade etched along both sides of the forte with a flower, foliage and foliated strapwork all against hatched grounds, hilt comprising diagonally fluted quillon-block with plain recurved quillons, line engraved pommel-cap of octagonal form with rounded button, and grip of tapering octagonal section veneered in tortoiseshell centred on two panels of mother-of-pearl on the outside engraved with a lion hunting scene in a landscape, in original wood-lined blackened leather scabbard with iron mounts en suite with the quillon-block, frog-button, and ring for suspension (some rust patination)
