A Continental Hunting Hanger
18th/19th Century

With slightly curved fullered blade (light pitting) double-edged towards the point and etched with a hound pursuing a boar on one side and a stag on the other, rectangular ricasso etched on both sides with symmetrical strapwork against a hatched ground, hilt comprising gilt-brass recurved fluted quillons, terminating in a hound's head and a bird's head respectively, downbent shell-guard cast, pierced and chased with a sporting trophy, pommel formed as a gundog's head on the round, and swelling horn grip (minor old split) of tapering circular section
