A Left-Hand Dagger
Partly Early 17th Century, German Or Italian

With tapering double-edged blade (probably adapted from a rapier blade) with line engraved borders over most of its length on each side and central piercing, rectangular ricasso with pierced borders and central raised rib on one side, iron hilt chiselled with foliage and comprising waisted baluster quillons of diamond section with cushion-shaped tips and button terminals, pommel en suite and with button finial, and vertically grooved grip bound with twisted iron wire between Turk's heads, in later wooden scabbard covered in black leather with shaped iron locket and chape chiselled en suite with the hilt, the former with fixed suspension ring on the inside
