Four Various Bowie Knives
19th Century And Later

The first with bright tapering blade of flattened diamond section, hilt comprising steel guard with spherical quillons, and writhen ivory grip with crescent-shaped pommel, in its black leather scabbard with later white-metal locket (chape missing); the second with blade of flattened diamond section etched 'Never Draw Me Without Honour' on one side, ricasso stamped 'Slater Brothers, Sheffield', hilt with flat ovoidal guard, and white-metal cutlery handle stamped with registered design kite mark and embossed with symmetrical designs of foliage, in its tooled red leather-covered scabbard with white-metal mounts; the third stamped 'William Rodgers, Sheffield' on the ricasso, horizontally recurved white-metal guard, and ivorine cutlery handle, in leather scabbard; the fourth in 19th century style, the blade stamped 'Rose New York' on one side of the ricasso, and white-metal mounted hilt with 'coffin-shaped' ivory grip set with two rows of studs along each side, in its black leather-covered scabbard with white-metal mounts and tooled 'IXXL' on one side; together with Bill Adams et al, The Antique Bowie Knife Book, 1990, no. 80 of 500 copies (5)
