A Rare Scottish Officer's Regimental Dirk Of The 74th Highlanders
By Meyer & Mortimer, Edinburgh, Circa 1875

With bright fullered blade (minor areas of pitting) notched along the back and with false double edge at the point, etched along one side with a martial trophy, battle honours and thistles, and on the other with the battle honour 'Assaye', regimental badge and crowned 'VR' cypher within symmetrical foliage, ebonised baluster grip carved with basketweave set with brass studs, gilt-brass mounts comprising basal mount cast and chased on each side with the regimental badge between thistles against a finely punched ground, and pommel embossed and chased with thistles and lilies en suite and set with a piece of faceted glass against yellow foil, in original wood-lined black patent leather scabbard with gilt-brass mounts embossed and chased with thistles framing respectively the figure of St. Andrew, battle honour to 'Assaye' and '74', the by-knife and fork en suite with the dirk, and retaining nearly all its original gilding
