A German Halberd Head, And A German Or Italian Spontoon Head
The First Late 16th Century, The Second Early 17th Century

The first with medial ridge extending to the point of the leaf-shaped blade on both sides (some lamination and minor damage), a hooked projection on each side beneath, sharply pointed crescentic axe-blade and beak-shaped fluke, the latter struck with trefoil-shaped maker's mark, faceted tapering socket, and shortened side-straps; the second with blade of slightly hollowed flattened diamond section centrally pierced with pairs of rectangular slots and circles, sharply-pointed upturned side-wings en suite, and retaining traces of engraved decoration on each side, tapering moulded socket with circular mount pierced with flower-heads, and side-straps (incomplete, pitted overall) (2)
