This item is the obverse side of the First, or King's, Guidon of the 15th (The King's) Light Dragoons, a regiment raised in 1759 and re-titled Hussars in 1807; amalgamated with the 19th Hussars in 1922, the regiment is now part of The Light Dragoons. The battle honour 'Emsdorf' is unique to the regiment, having been granted by 1768 in commemoration of the 15th's conduct at that battle, in Hesse, on14th July 1760. Provenance: Field Marshal H.R.H. The Prince Ernest Augustus, Duke of Cumberland KG KP GCB GCH (1771-1851), fifth son of H.M. King George III and King of Hannover 1837-51, was appointed colonel of the 15th Light Dragoons on 28th March 1801, retaining that rank until 1827. This item comprised lot 4398 in Sotheby's 'Hannover Sale', 5th-15th October 2005, having descended in the Royal family of Hannover from the Duke of Cumberland.
