Footnotes
Carl Oscar Borg (1879-1947) was born in Sweden and emigrated to the United states in 1901. Under the patronage of Phoebe Hearst, Borg returned to Europe to develop the necessary "European acclaim". He then returned to California and exhibited in the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. Borg is known primarily as a painter and specifically for his arresting portrayal of the American western Indians. His works can be seen in collections including the Library of Congress, M.H. de Young Memorial Museum and the National Museum Stockholm. His etchings have also been used as illustrations in a number of books.
However, after his work with the Indians he moved to Los Angeles where he became involved in the motion picture industry doing set design, carving and eventually was employed by Douglas Fairbanks as an Art Director for United Artists.
