A pair of Louis XVI style gilt bronze mounted three handled tripod covered bleu turquin marble urns
probably Maxime Secrétant, Paris
late 19th/early 20th century

Each ovoid vessel flanked by three upright handles with satyr mask terminals, surmounted by waisted cover with fruiting grapevine finial and similar pendant, raised on three leaf cast hoofed supports, all on incurved plinth with beaded rim, stamped with interlinked monogram SM, 818, one with JJ.

Footnotes

Maxime Secrétant established his workshop at 74, rue Amelot, Paris at the end of the 19th century, where he produced fine quality furniture in the 18th century style. Secrétant was a contemporary and rival to such famous cabinetmakers as Beurdeley, Sormani, Krieger, Millet, Dasson, Zwiener, and Linke. Eventually due to economic pressures, Secrétant was forced to sell the contents of his workshop by auction at L'Hôtel Drouot on November, 26th, 1935.
