A fine Louis XVI style gilt bronze and porcelain mounted octagonal table box
fourth quarter 19th century

The octagonal hinged lid centering a plaque depicting a fete champetre, after Watteau, centering eight porcelain plaques within bronze banded frames decorated with floral bouquets and trophies, opening to a velvet lined interior, the lid inset with a plaque depicting two putti with attributes of love, the case inset with porcelain plaques of young lovers in sylvan settings alternating with plaques depicting glades, streams and idyllic forests above a gilt bronze gadrooned and shell cast base with scrolled supports.
height 7 1/2in (19cm); width 14 1/4in (36cm); depth 10in (26cm)
