An onyx, rock crystal, diamond and gem-set necklace
Of Art Deco inspiration, incorporating elements from an earlier 1920s necklace, the longchain of elongated onyx batons alternating with faceted rock crystal links with two circular onyx and gem-set spacers, suspending an articulated geometric pendant of shaped onyx steps with a rose-cut diamond and faceted pear-shaped yellow quartz drop, indistinct maker's mark, French assay marks, lengths: pendant 8.0cm, necklace 87.5cm
Footnotes
According to the vendor, elements of this necklace are taken from an art deco sautoir originally made in France in the late 1920s. During World War II the most precious gems were taken out of the original necklace and later in the 20th century it was reconstructed and reworked using the surviving semi-precious elements with other materials to create the piece in its current form.
