square, the black silk ground profusely embroidered with silver and gilt threads, with a large central roundel filled with inscription, within a band of further inscription, a smaller roundel in each corner, with radiating rays

In the centre, allah jalla jalalahu, God, Exalted be His Glory;

In the red band, Qur'an, chapter XLVIII (al-fath) part of verse 29;

At the end of the verse, katabahu al-ghazi mahmud ibn 'abd al-hamid, Mahmud ibn 'Abd al-Hamid, the warrior wrote it (Ottoman Sultan AH 1223-55/AD 1808-39);

In the four green roundels, al-rahman jalla jalalahu, The Compassionate, exalted be His Glory; al-rahim jalla jalalahu, The Merciful, exalted be His Glory; al-malik jalla jalalahu, The King, exalted be His Glory; and al-quddus jalla jalalahu, The Holy One, exalted be His Glory.
