Footnotes

Provenance:
UK private collection since the 1970s

The distinctive trumpet foot and high raised body of this impressive ewer is closely related to a group of ewers variously dated to the post-Sassanian period and to the 7-9th centuries known in silver, copper and bronze. The distinctive decoration to the body links it most closely with a comparable example in the State Hermitage Museum, Russia (inv. IR-2315).
