An engraved bronze Khorasan Ewer
Persia, 12th Century

of bulbous form with flat shoulder and gently flaring neck on a short foot, the ribbed handle attached to rim by a flat element flanked by protruding wings and surmounted by a pomegranate thumb-rest, engraved to the body with a roundel containing a trefoil of flowerhead motifs, flanked by two inscription filled cartouches, the neck with two raised rings engraved with four vertical panels containing scrolling vines, below a band of cable design, above a band with a scrolling vine
